Although loosing a tooth and its replacement may be something that some people ignore, it can cause some serious side effects. Extra pressure on remaining dentition can cause wear and tear on those teeth and in some cases it can cause cracks and broken cusps. Pressure on TMJ (your jaw joints) can cause arthritis of the joints, clicking joints, jaw lock, headaches and pain.
Movements and tilting of the adjacent teeth, diastema (gaps between teeth) over eruption of opposing teeth and mobility of adjacent and opposing teeth are also common side effects of a lost tooth.
The more missing teeth you have, the more such side effects. So it's strongly recommended to have the lost teeth replaced within reasonable time. In the past, dentures and bridges were the most common methods of tooth replacement. These methods have their own disadvantages.
Fortunately recent advancements in dental implantology has made it possible to replace missing or lost teeth without much side effects and/or disadvantages of the continental methods.
Implant teeth are fixed, strong, and act as your own teeth. Such teeth can last permanently as long as you look after them. Consult your dental practitioner about possibilities of replacing your missing teeth with an implants. And finally remember the longer you wait, the more difficult and more expensive it may become to replace a lost tooth.
